Soni Cochran is the statewide Disaster Education Coordinator for Nebraska Extension and is stationed in the Dawes County Extension office in Chadron. In her role, she leads the Nebraska Extension Disaster Education Network (EDEN) team and serves as the point of contact for the Heartland EDEN regional team (Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri) and National EDEN. Soni is also Nebraska Extension’s point of contact for Nebraska Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters (VOAD) and USDA ESF #11. She is a member of the Nebraska AgrAbility team, which is a partnership between Nebraska Extension and Easterseals, addressing the needs of farmers and ranchers with disabilities. She is a Question-Persuade-Refer (QPR) Gatekeeper Instructor, promoting suicide awareness and prevention and a member of the Rural Family Stress and Wellness and Rural Prosperity Nebraska teams. Soni enjoys collaborating with people, and partners and communities to promote preparedness and efforts to strengthen their resilience. Soni has served as a Civil Air Patrol volunteer since 2004. She is the safety officer for the 155^th Composite Squadron in Lincoln and focuses on ground team search and rescue.
